LOWELL — An unidentified man was shot multiple times at Blodgett and Forest streets in Lowell late Saturday night, just about 20 minutes after another shooting that left a man injured on Moore Street.
There is no indication the two incidents are related or a result of gang activity, said Lowell Police Capt. Kevin Staveley.
A house on Felton Street was shot at early Sunday morning.
The incident on Moore Street began about 11 p.m., and was initially reported as a fight near Moore and Lenox streets. Officers were still on their way to that location when they were updated by dispatchers that someone may have been shot.
Police found a man on St. James Street with what detectives described as a “graze-type wound” to his head, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
An unidentified female also suffered a cut to her hand during the fight on Moore Street.
Police were still investigating the incident on Moore Street, some of them carrying rifles, when another shooting was reported on Blodgett Street at Forest Street just before midnight.
There were multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots on Blodgett Street, in the Upper Highlands neighborhood, and one 911 call reported that a man was shot five times.
A Forest Street resident who declined to give his name said he heard about five bangs that he thought might have been fireworks. He said he realized the noises weren’t fireworks when he saw police outside of his home and noticed a young man lying prone on Blodgett Street near a parked car.
Police could not immediately confirm how many times that male was shot. The first officers to arrive on Blodgett Street urgently asked dispatchers to have an ambulance and paramedics hurry up.
That man was taken to a city hospital. Staveley said the man did not appear to be seriously injured.
Police said they found several 9mm shell casings on Blodgett Street.
The trunk of a car parked across Forest Street from the shooting scene was struck by a bullet, as was the window of a home on Forest Street. A man outside that home said no one inside was hurt.
Police radio broadcasts indicated the shooting on Blodgett Street may be connected to an incident that occurred about 11 p.m., in which a man was hit in the head with a brick on Avenue C.
Police early Sunday morning were looking for a dark-colored Dodge Magnum with tinted windows and shiny wheels in connection with the Moore Street incident.
They were searching for a white or silver SUV, possibly a Mercury, in connection with the shooting on Blodgett Street.
Staveley said the police department’s investigations into the two shootings were ongoing. Both shootings appeared to be a result of disputes amongst people known to each other, said Staveley.
No arrests have been made.
At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, several rounds were fired into the front of a home on Felton Street. No one was injured and the incident appears unrelated to the other two shooting incidents, said Staveley.
Police are investigating.
Anyone with information any of the incidents is asked to call Lowell police at 978-937-3200 or Crimestoppers at 978-459-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent to police via Text-a-Tip, by texting TIP411 (847411) with the subject “LPDTIP.”
